How to make stands for hives

We have made universal supports that enable us to transport beehives, to replace racks in the hibernate and to fully mechanize these processes. And here in a month in the brigade smithy 80 such supports were made, which greatly facilitated the movement of the apiary and breaking it into points from 12 to 48 hives. To raise the supports we use the tractor T-40. On its rear hydraulic system, we hung an arrow with a fork of pipes 50 mm in diameter and 1250 mm long. With the help of such a lift, we immediately lift two stands with four hives.

On the platform of the trolley (4000 X 2400 mm) we install 48 hives, or 24 stands in two tiers, tied with a rope – and in a way. The loading time is 30 minutes, sometimes about an hour, depending on the location and arrangement of the hives on the point. We transport the hives to the hibiscus tractor, then lower it with a trolley. We install the lift in a rack mounted on three wheels with a winch. For 7 hours we set 100 hives.

The structure of our stand is quite simple: H-shaped frame from the corner (40 X 40 mm), to which are welded the stops (d) and staples of strip iron (4 X 30 mm). To the brackets are fastened with the help of a finger (c) hinged supports. During transportation they are added up, and at the point they are scattered. When the support is folded, fix it with the aid of the device (d), made of steel wire with a diameter of 3 mm. The mount is suspended on the crossbar (b), to it is welded a hook from a 10 mm rod. When loading, thread on the fork (m) stand, raise it, fasten the supports, then lower and thread the second stand.

The platform is made of slate iron, the supports come into the gutters, from the longitudinal displacement of the stand, the strips are welded over the gutters. If the hives are installed in one tier, they can not be linked. To ensure that the hives do not move from the stand, we weld the locks (n). These are either pins with a height of 10 mm, or rollers made of a rod with a diameter of 10 mm.

The upper frame ensures reliable fastening of the hives. It also has an H-shape and is welded from a corner (35 X 35 mm). To it: the latches (i) from the same corner are welded flat. In the crosspiece (h) there is a hole (k) with a diameter of 13 mm. Through; chain, put on the hook in the lower part of the stand, 1 and the bolt, passed through the hole, pull together the lower and upper frames. In doing so, it must be remembered that the thread length of the bolt in the fastener (l) must be greater than the chain link.

In the winter hut (5.5 x 19 m) the hives are set in three: rows and in two tiers. The distance between the rows is about 0.5 m, this is quite enough to inspect the families. The distance to the walls is also 0.5 m.
