Far Eastern bee breed
Some beekeepers do not consider them a separate breed, but refer to the intra-breed type, which was formed as a result of crossing in the natural environment of the Central Russian and Ukrainian gray bees with Caucasian and Italian yellow bees. Ancestors of this type were brought to the Far East in the XIX century. They are distributed over a fairly large area from the Primorsky Territory to Khabarovsk, as well as in nearby territories and neighboring areas.
The difference of this type is an unstable color within the type, it varies from gray to gray-yellow. The length of the proboscis of this bee is 6.1 – 6.8 mm. The length of the working bee is 105 mm, the fetal female is 230 mm. Reproductive capacity is low – up to 1600 eggs.
Another distinctive feature – friendliness, lack of aggression, does not show concern when inspecting their nests. These honey bees are sealed with a mixed seal, their nests contain less propolis than other breeds. The sense of smell is well developed, which allows them to easily find the honey-plants. More are attracted to the collection of honey from limes, the daily collection of one family can reach 10 kg. This breed is highly productive – for the season the family produces about 100 kg, while stocks are made both in the store and in the brood parts of the nest.
Families of the Far East do not have cohabitation of queens, or a quiet shift. They are practically not susceptible to diseases of bees, wax moth is also not a big threat for them. Winter, even cold and long, is quite easy. The shortcomings of the Far Eastern breed include: low productivity of wax, construction of honeycombs for a long time, quickly turn into a rileous state, about half of all bee colonies can begin to swim. Therefore, for prevention, it is necessary to form the layers in time.
There are 2 populations of Far Eastern rock: gray and yellow, with which you can significantly improve breeding.
Also in the Far East there is a wax bee, which is indigenous to the given territory, but its population is very small and gradually dies out. These bees perfectly tolerate the winter and can even contain small overflights in the winter season.
Now in Primorye, it is increasingly possible to meet tribal farms on which bees of the Far Eastern breed are reproduced. Now there are not so many families of this breed on farms, but each year their number only increases. This population is unique: it can collect honey even in the rain, can easily survive the winter and illness.
